The U.S. is Losing the Nuclear Arms Race to China

America has one of the largest strategic nuclear arsenals in the world—and one of the oldest. The U.S. can deliver nuclear weapons from silos buried deep in the American heartland, submarines plying vast oceans, or bombers conducting global patrols. Nuclear power has underpinned not just America’s security but that of its closest allies for decades. But the U.S. is losing its nuclear edge in ways that profoundly affect Washington’s interests.

Today, the U.S.’ most formidable adversary, China, is growing its nuclear arsenal by rapidly churning out launch platforms and warheads faster than America’s aging forces can be replaced. A revisionist power like China is most effectively deterred when confronted by an opponent with the resolve and capability to balance out their forces in peacetime and, should deterrence fail, deny them victory in wartime. Satellite imagery of China’s nuclear forces shows that this balance is deteriorating…

A senior U.S. defense official recently revealed that China has begun loading these silos with intercontinental-range missiles. This is to say nothing of Beijing’s more secure road-mobile systems that can also hold the U.S. homeland at risk but are less vulnerable to preemptive attack. The Pentagon has reported to Congress that China’s intercontinental-range missile launchers, in total, outnumber America’s 400 silos loaded with the 54-year-old Minuteman III. China has thus exceeded the targeting coverage of the obsolescing U.S. land-based capability.

LONDON (AP) — Britain’s new left-leaning government said Sunday that the nation is “broke and broken,” blaming the situation on its predecessors ahead of a major speech on the state of the public finances that is widely expected to lay the groundwork for higher taxes.

In a sweeping assessment three weeks after taking power, Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s office professed shock at the situation they inherited after 14 years of Conservative Party rule, while releasing a department-by-department analysis of the perceived failures of the previous government.

The critique comes a day before Treasury chief Rachel Reeves is expected to outline a 20-billion-pound ($26 billion) shortfall in public finances during a speech to the House of Commons.

The arson attacks on France’s high-speed rail network hours before the opening of the Olympics may be linked to radical left-wingers and groups critical of the Olympics, the daily Le Parisien reported.

A letter claiming responsibility and containing references to ultra-leftist groups was sent to several French and international media outlets, Le Parisien reported Saturday evening.

The alleged perpetrators claimed responsibility for the arson attacks on Friday and suggested that their motive was to disrupt the Olympic Games.

“You call it a celebration? We see it as a celebration of nationalism, a gigantic staging of the subjugation of the population by the states,” the newspaper quoted the letter as saying.

Investigators are now looking into whether this is a genuine claim of responsibility or an attempt to falsely claim credit for the attacks.

However, Le Parisien wrote that authorities considered this a serious lead in the case, as the confessional letter – which came via email – was sent through a secure domain name that has been regularly seen in investigations into violent left-wing protest movements.

The investigation into the U.S. Secret Service’s failure to secure the Pennsylvania campaign rally where former President Donald Trump was shot late Saturday afternoon should focus on whether the agency followed preventive protocols, a former member of the Secret Service told The Daily Signal.

“If they followed the methodology that the Secret Service uses, that worked for me for 24 years,” said Ken Valentine, a retired agent who helped protect three presidents of both parties—Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama. “It’s super-solid. It can always be enhanced and improved, but I suspect what we’re going to see is that there was non-execution of agreed-upon protocols, and we’ll just see what those are.”

Valentine said if he had been in Trump’s security detail on Saturday, he would have focused on preventing anyone from the top of the building from which the 20-year-old gunman fired upon the rally. One of the bullets grazed the former president in the right ear, bloodying Trump.

Restricting u-turns is now homophobic, and at this point, it would probably be a lot easier if the powers that be provided a list of all the things that are not anti-gay.

Silver Lake, a neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles known for its high hipster population, has officially taken down the last two “No U-turn” signs because they were supposedly put in place to prevent gay men from “cruising” and picking up other gay men.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News:

Getting rid of the signs was long overdue for many, including Donovan Daughtry, a gay man who five years ago moved to Silver Lake, known as being LGBTQ-friendly.

Two years ago, Daughtry reached out to L.A. City Councilmember Nithya Raman’s office about the signs after learning about them from a podcast hosted by Chris Cruse, founder of queermaps.org, an online archive of 150 years of queer history in L.A. On Monday, moments after he helped take down the last sign, Daughtry said, “This is a small effort, but just to have a sign that I would have to walk past with my dog every day be taken down meant a lot.”

Oh, geez. Cry me a river, Karen. This is how you know these people are privileged. They can literally go and complain that they don’t like a sign and city officials will get rid of them just so they don’t have to look at them. You really can’t get more spoiled than that, and they will still turn around and pretend they are victimized.

You wouldn’t know it from pro-abortion corporate media and Democrats’ commentary, but a bipartisan coalition of Louisiana legislators in the state House passed a bill this week that aims to punish anyone who knowingly tries to induce chemical abortion in a woman without her consent — the “crime of coerced criminal abortion by means of fraud.”

The legislation also changes the drug classification of mifepristone and misoprostol to ensure possession of the most popular abortifacient combination on the market without a prescription is illegal.

Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, has recently enhanced its AI tool by adding new features. This tool, called Meta AI, is specifically designed for advertisers to help them create more creative advertisements on these platforms. By using these AI tools, users will be able to generate photos and videos that can be used for advertising purposes. These AI tools work on Llama, an advanced large language model.

Meta has stated that their aim is to assist advertisers at every step of their journey, whether it’s through improving performance, generating creative ideas, or automating tasks. The new AI tools of Meta will be particularly useful in image generation. Advertisers can create attractive advertisements for their businesses by using these tools, including adding text to images, choosing different backgrounds, and generating AI-generated backgrounds with their products.

For example, if an advertiser wants to advertise their product on Meta’s social media platform, they will have the option to create an AI-generated background with the product. This tool will help advertisers to make their advertisements more appealing and engaging to their target audience. Similarly, through Meta AI’s video generation tool, advertisers can use AI elements in their product videos as well.

Apart from these new AI tools, Meta AI has also been integrated into Meta’s products, which is currently being rolled out. This integration means that users will soon be able to access these generative AI tools on the social media platform. By using these tools, advertisers can make their product advertisements more attractive, thus increasing their chances of getting more traction.

Hamish Spencer, zoologist and distinguished professor at the University of Otago, was vacationing in Colombia when ornithologist John Murillo pointed out an interesting bird perched on a feeding station. The bird in question was a green honeycreeper, but it didn’t look quite like any honeycreeper they’d seen before. The right half of the bird was blue, resembling males of the species, and the left half was green—the hue typically seen in females.

This special honeycreeper is one of many animals that display bilateral gynandromorphism, a trait where animals present both male and female characteristics even though their species usually have distinct sexes.

Other birds have displayed bilateral gynandromorphism. In 2019, a cardinal with male and female plumage was spotted in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 2020, researchers in Pennsylvania found a gynandromorphic rose-breasted grosbeak that displayed male plumage on the right and female plumage on the left.

These birds, and other binary-breaking animals like clownfish and leaping lesbian lizards, are proof that nature is less into simple labels than you think. For more on the way the natural world consistently shatters our idea of how things like sex should work, check out these gene-stealing salamanders, this super-sexy slime mold, and Rachel’s book about the weird and wonderful evolution of sex.

Reuters is reporting that Belarus will be holding tactical nuclear drills together with Russia, according to the state news agency TASS.

Belarus has begun checks on the readiness of its army to deploy tactical nuclear weapons, simultaneously with a drill being carried out by Russia.

Russia said on Monday it would practise the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons as part of a military exercise after what Moscow said were threats from France, Britain and the United States.
