When asked to choose between a “Democratic socialist who supports Medicare for All, ending military aid to Israel, and abolishing ICE” and a “MAGA Republican who supports mass deportations and always votes with Trump,” 51% of registered voters went for the socialist, while only 34% picked the MAGA Republican. The remaining 15% were unsure.

Notably, this figure did not change much when the hypothetical socialist candidate was swapped for a “Liberal Democrat who wants to protect Obamacare (ACA), increase support for child care and housing, and opposes tariffs.” Fifty-five percent backed the liberal Democrat, and an identical 34% supported the MAGA Republican.

A young black mother was brutally murdered in Mississippi last month, but the Associated Press seems more interested in browbeating Americans about racism than in finding justice.

On Monday, the AP published a video on YouTube that uses the horrific murder of Tasia Fortune, a 29-year-old mother of four, as a pretext to revisit the history of racially motivated lynching.

‘I don’t think this was racist. I think this was something very personal.’

“The death of Tasia Fortune, a black Mississippi woman who was found hanging from a tree, has brought up distressing memories of the grim history of lynchings in the United States South,” Sarah Jones-Smith of the AP says to open the video.

“For many black people, the imagery of a rope and noose evokes the legacy of lynching and vigilante violence against black people in the U.S. and brings deep pain and trauma,” Jones-Smith continues.

The fact that Fortune was found hanging from a tree in the back yard of a vacant Jackson home on August 3 appears to be the only tie between her murder and previous racial lynchings.

In fact, a black man has already been identified as the suspected murderer. On September 11, police arrested 51-year-old Jarques “Jock” Ratliff and charged him with murder in connection with Fortune’s death.

US military might has turned out to be an illusion in the style of ‘The Wizard of Oz’, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson has said.

The myth of American dominance in the defense sector was shattered by the Ukraine and Iran conflicts, Johnson said in an interview with RT’s Sanchez Effect on Monday.

Before the escalation between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022, “Russia had the perception that the US was very powerful militarily, that it had strategic depth, that its industrial base was such that it could support and sustain a modern war,” he said.

However, the opinion in Moscow has changed since then as Russian forces were able to “solve and defeat” all of the systems supplied by Washington to Kiev’s military, the former CIA analyst told host Rick Sanchez.

“I’m calling this ‘The Wizard of Oz effect’… just like in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ at the end when the curtain gets pulled back and the great and powerful Oz turns out to be this little old guy with a drinking problem behind the curtain. That’s the US,” he said.


 

Johnson mentioned a recent report by the Pentagon’s inspector general, which sounded the alarm over “shortfalls” in munitions and a bottleneck in resupply of key weapons.

It was also “an embarrassment” when in August General Dynamics lost a $530 million contract with the Department of War to manufacture shells, the former CIA analyst said.

“They produced exactly zero. Meanwhile, Russia is producing as many artillery shells in one month as all of NATO does in a year,” he stressed.

According to Johnson, Iran has also delivered “enormous damage” to US capabilities in the Middle East since the American-Israeli attack on the country in early February.

Rebuilding the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, which was crippled by Iranian strikes, “doesn’t make economic sense” as Tehran has shown that it’s capable of hitting it again at any moment, he said.

It’s incredible to watch the Democrats and their media allies lie about a string of deaths in the South that involved black victims hanging from trees. As Townhall reported, many of those deaths were ruled suicides. They are all tragic losses of life, but they are not indicative of a return of lynchings.

The AP just repeated that narrative yesterday, saying Fortune’s murder “stirred distressing memories of the grim history of lynchings across the U.S. South.” The last widely-recognized lynching in America happened in 1981, two years before this writer was born.

As polls turn further toward Democrats ahead of November’s midterm elections, one might expect Republican pollsters to try to cut against that narrative and release some data to put a damper on all this blue-wave talk. But so far, they generally aren’t doing that.

A spate of new surveys from GOP-affiliated pollsters show Democrats well positioned across key Senate races.

In Texas’ Senate contest, two Republican polls show Democratic nominee James Talarico ahead of Republican nominee Ken Paxton. One from InsiderAdvantage shows Talarico up 2 points, while another, from SoCal Strategies, has him leading Paxton by 5 points.

One InsiderAdvantage poll even shows a close race in South Carolina’s Senate race: Democratic nominee Annie Andrews trails Republican Sen. Darline Graham by just 2 points. That is remarkable for a state that President Donald Trump won in 2024 by 18 points, and where no Democratic Senate nominee has lost by less than 9.6 points since the 1990s.

Notably, the only nonpartisan poll released since the start of July, from Abacus Data, showed Graham ahead of Andrews by 13 points.

Trafalgar Group, a GOP pollster infamous for its opaque methodology, finds the Democratic Senate candidates ahead in Michigan (D+2), North Carolina (D+6), and Georgia (D+7). All of those results are roughly in line with those from nonpartisan firms, despite Trafalgar having a track record of bias toward Republican candidates.

President Donald Trump said that he plans to make his proposed 250-foot arch in Washington, DC, a “top grade military complex” that holds large stores of weaponry, citing national security reasons and a “strong request” from the US military.

Trump added in his Sunday post on Truth Social that the planned “Triumphal Arch” near the National Mall would “have the rapid ability to use large numbers of drones, plus Snipers, on both the roof and plaza areas.”

The president first proposed building the arch last October to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. The much-criticized project, as currently planned, would tower over most other DC landmarks—the tallest being the Washington Monument, at approximately 555 feet—and block the view of Arlington National Cemetery from the Lincoln Memorial.

Three Vietnam War veterans sued the administration to prevent construction of the arch based on the view issue, and also because Trump has not secured the required approval from Congress. Earlier this month, a federal judge ordered the administration to provide 48 hours’ notice before doing any work on the project, but has yet to rule on the merits of the case.
