Ammunition inside the rifle used to assassinate Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk was engraved with messages of “transgender and antifascist ideology,” the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing a law enforcement bulletin and a source familiar with the investigation.

Kirk, 31,  was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at an outdoor TPUSA event at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday.

Federal investigators recovered the high-powered, bolt-action rifle in a wooded area near the university.

The FBI on Thursday also released photos of a “person of interest” in the murder,  as the Bureau continued its manhunt for the killer, appealing to the public for information. According to Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner, Beau Mason, the suspect “blended in” with students on campus. The photos show a person wearing a hat, sunglasses and a black, long-sleeved t-shirt that appeared to have a photo of an American flag on it.

The Wall Street Journal’s reporting tracks with what conservative journalist Steven Crowder reported early Thursday.

“This morning my team received an e-mail from officer at ATF,” Crowder posted on X at 7:35 am. He said the email included a screenshot “an internal message describing a weapon and cartridges located by an ATF and other law enforcement near the scene” of the shooting.

Law enforcement officials said Thursday they have made progress in their investigation into the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot to death Wednesday during a turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.

“We were able to make a few breakthroughs,” Utah Department of Public Safety Commissioner Beau Mason said Thursday morning in a video posted to X.

“Starting at 11:52 a.m. the subject arrived on campus, shortly away from campus. We’ve tracked his movements onto the campus, through the stairwells, up to the roof, across the roof to the shooting location,” he said.

“After the shooting, we were able to track his movements as he moved to the others die of the building, jumped off the building, and fled off of the campus and into a neighborhood,” he said.

He said authorities have contacted residents to collect video from their security cameras.

“We do have good video footage of this individual,” he said.

Mason said the footage would not be released to the public “at this time” unless police efforts to identify the shooter using law enforcement technology prove unsuccessful.

When facts emerged suggesting the assassin of Charlie Kirk may be yet another deranged Antifa or transgenderism extremist, CNN immediately went to great lengths to cover the murderer’s reported political sympathies.

According to authorities, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, the assassin’s gun contained ammunition inscribed with phrases supporting “transgender” and “antifascist” ideology. In an apparent attempt to hide that information, CNN decided to run with a headline describing the bullets as having been “scrawled with cultural phrases.”

The chyron CNN ran on television said the same: “Phrases Related to Cultural Issues Were Scrawled on Rifle.”

Probably worse is that CNN said the bullets were inscribed with a “range of phrases related to cultural issues” (emphasis added) so it could launder the idea that “it’s not yet clear if they point to a motivation in the attack.” No. The assassin’s likely motivations are quite clear. Kirk was famous for his conservative and Christian views. That would be an obvious top motivator for someone to assassinate him in such a public and deliberate fashion.

Kirk made his life’s work doing something leftists could never do: Have reasoned debate with those who disagree to advance public discourse. He went on college campuses to talk to anyone who wanted to engage. That’s dangerous to the left because they can no longer logically defend their irrational positions. It’s very likely that for this great sin, Kirk was assassinated.

It was only one day before he was assassinated that Charlie Kirk said in a podcast interview that politicizing murder is often an imperative: “I don’t like politicizing situations like [the murder of  Iryna Zarutska], but it just necessitates it because there are so many dynamics at play here.”

So let’s not pretend for a second that there’s something untoward in talking about Kirk’s death in terms of politics. By definition, the assassination is political. Democrats got us here, and they are to be held to account for it.

Just two weeks ago, I noted Democrat leaders are increasingly using language in public indicating raw bloodlust, as when Democrat National Committee Chairman Ken Martin said he was “sick and tired of this Democratic Party bringing a pencil to a knife fight,” and that Democrats “cannot be the only party that plays by the rules anymore.”
