Starting this Sunday, the EU’s new AI Act begins to take effect, which includes key provisions empowering the EU to regulate AI models and apply fines to companies that fall out of compliance. The law also gives the EU investigatory powers to penalize non-cooperating companies and individuals.
The Act itself presents a challenge to AI geopolitical realities of power as nations and associations like the EU attempt to use domestic laws to affect foreign AI powers. For instance, the fines countries give to foreign companies doing business in their territory due to non-compliance with their AI rules could become weapons of war in the AI geopolitical reality of power.
EU to begin enforcing AI Act from Sunday with hefty fines for rule breakers – Firstpost– news.google.com News Source EXCERPT:
The European Union will begin enforcing key provisions of its AI Act from Sunday, empowering regulators to oversee AI models and fine companies that violate the bloc’s rules.
The European Union will take a major step in regulating artificial intelligence from Sunday, when authorities gain the power to enforce key provisions of the bloc’s landmark AI Act. The move allows regulators to oversee advanced AI systems, order corrective measures and impose significant financial penalties on companies that fail to comply with the law.
The AI Act, adopted by the European Union in 2024, is being rolled out in phases and follows a risk-based framework.
Under the legislation, AI systems considered to pose greater risks to people’s rights or health face stricter obligations designed to safeguard individuals.
The law also prohibits the use of AI for predictive policing, emotion recognition systems in workplaces or schools, and technologies that manipulate human behaviour.

EU will require companies to label AI-generated content starting Sunday– www.techspot.com News Source
EXCERPT:
The takeaway: Companies operating in the European Union are now subject to a new requirement: clearly label content created or altered by artificial intelligence. Beginning Sunday, the EU’s latest transparency rules take effect, covering everything from chatbot responses to AI-generated images, audio, and video. The aim is simple: users should be able to tell, without guessing, whether what they are seeing or hearing is real or machine-generated.
The rule is part of the EU’s broader artificial intelligence law, which is being rolled out in phases. This first step focuses on disclosure. If content is generated by AI or significantly manipulated by it, companies must make that clear. That includes adding visible labels as well as technical markers, such as watermarks or embedded metadata, that help identify synthetic material.
The push comes as deepfakes and other AI-generated media become more convincing and easier to produce. Regulators are particularly concerned about how quickly this content can spread and how difficult it has become to determine what is real.
The requirements apply mainly to content created in professional contexts. Material designed to inform the public about matters of general interest must carry a label if it is produced by AI without human editorial oversight. At the same time, the EU has carved out exceptions. Individuals using AI for personal purposes are not covered, and exemptions exist for “artistic, creative, satirical, fictional” works.
Meta has added an “AI Info” label to posts on Facebook and Instagram to identify content created with artificial intelligence.
Spain installs floating barrier in Ceuta after migration influx– www.france24.com News Source

Spain said migrant crossings into its North African enclave of Ceuta stopped overnight, as police began installing a 500-metre (1,640-foot) floating barrier on Saturday off its border with Morocco following a mass rush that killed at least 67 people.
According to Spanish authorities, about 60,000 people had crossed into Ceuta by land and sea from Thursday in an unprecedented surge at one of the European Union‘s only land borders with Africa. More than 48,000 of them returned to Morocco within 48 hours, Spain said.
Reuters video on Saturday showed Spanish soldiers and police patrolling a mostly empty Tarajal beach shrouded in fog.
EU crisis chief urges tougher climate action amid France, Spain wildfires | Climate Crisis News– www.aljazeera.com News Source
EXCERPT:
The European Union’s crisis management commissioner says the bloc needs to invest more in tackling climate change and accelerate its response, as France and Spain prepare for another crippling heatwave that could ignite new wildfires and intensify blazes already burning.
Hadja Lahbib said the EU must ensure its climate strategy remains in lockstep with realities on the ground, as global warming advances faster than scientists previously projected. She has called for increased funding, better education on fire risk and a renewed focus on forest management.
“Climate change is accelerating. So our response must evolve just as quickly,” Lahbib told Reuters.
“We must prepare for risks before disasters strike and not simply react afterwards.”
Lahbib’s comments come as devastating wildfires continue to burn across parts of France and Spain, forcing the evacuation of 330,000 people.
Catherine Herridge has been covering the efforts by progressives in the Trump administration who appear to have committed acts of treason by knowingly omitting and altering intelligence reports on China to protect China from Trump’s scrutiny.
Herridge claimed, “They had to save President Trump from his own instincts, from his own tendencies, and that there was very much a globalist view. And they had to preserve a globalist view. So, whether it was downplaying or suppressing intelligence about the threat from China, whether it was giving a pass and calling the Hunter Biden laptop Russian disinformation, there was this level of a bureaucracy, a kind of conspiracy that was making decisions about the kind of information that should be reaching policy makers and ultimately the commander-in-chief.”
Catherine Herridge Exposes The Forces Working Against Trump From Within Intel Agencies– trendingpoliticsnews.com News Source

Veteran investigative reporter Catherine Herridge reported during an appearance on NewsNation’s “Katie Pavlich Tonight,” that a senior member of former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s Director’s Initiatives Group, known as the DIG, described a pattern in which intelligence community officials acted on the belief that they needed to protect a globalist perspective by limiting certain information provided to policymakers, including President Donald Trump.
Herridge’s comments came amid discussion of recently declassified federal documents related to intelligence assessments from 2020 concerning China’s election influence operations. Those records, which were released in connection with a primetime address by President Trump the prior week, included internal communications indicating that some intelligence reports had been edited to remove references linking China’s activities to the 2020 U.S. election.
One November 20, 2020, email from a Strategic Intelligence Analyst in China and North Korea Strategic Assessments stated that officials had “deliberately massaged our one pending PDB (President’s Daily Brief) to avoid any direct links to the election.”
Herridge noted that she had reviewed the materials and found consistency with earlier whistleblower allegations that intelligence about China’s multi-domain influence efforts—aimed at impeding then-President Trump’s re-election and denigrating him as a candidate—had been suppressed or altered. In the same interview, Herridge connected these developments to broader observations shared by a source within Gabbard’s investigative team.

Trump revives old tropes as he pushes warnings of ‘communist menace’ | Donald Trump– www.theguardian.com News Source
EXCERPT:
Perhaps above all else, Donald Trump is a child of the cold war.
Three months before the US president was born, Winston Churchill delivered a historic speech in Fulton, Missouri, that ushered in a generations-long existential struggle between western capitalism and Soviet communism.
Lamenting the spread of Soviet communism across eastern Europe following the allied victory in the second world war, Churchill – by then no longer British prime minister – warned his audience on 5 March 1946 that “an iron curtain has descended across the continent”.
It was the prelude to a nuclear-armed standoff between Washington and Moscow that triggered a hysteria-driven “red scare” in the US – leading to the execution of convicted spies and exemplified by witch-hunts instigated by the Republican senator Joe McCarthy, who claimed he had obtained lists of communist agents working in the state department and other key areas of American life.
The hunt for communists would have been a ubiquitous theme of Trump’s early childhood.
Babis’ win in Czechia is a huge victory for European conservatives– rmx.news Source Link Excerpt:
After four long years in the political wilderness, Andrej Babiš returns to presumably lead the Czech Republic after his blowout victory. In neighboring Hungary, Viktor Orbán was jubilant, celebrating the victory of his ally, while in Slovakia, Robert Fico also toasted to Babis’ huge win.
Orbán and Fico are grizzled veterans of the political wars within their own countries, and now Babis is being welcomed back into the fold. One cannot help but think back to the famous “Hangover” scene.
Orbán, long in the driver’s seat in Hungary, with a tired Fico smiling warily from the backseat, still recovering from an assassination attempt that nearly killed him last year, and Babis fist-pumping from the passenger seat. At least that is one way to imagine Babis’ comeback victory.
Hungarian media is also doing the victory rounds, with Magyar Nemzet writing that Babis’ “return will further strengthen the influence of patriotic leaders in the European Union.” The paper further wrote that “his result could create another opportunity to increase the influence of the V4 and Patriots in Europe.”

France faces disruption as new PM starts job– www.yahoo.com Source Link Excerpt:
France’s new Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu was to take office on Wednesday facing a day of protests disrupting transport, education and other services in a show of grassroots anger against President Emmanuel Macron.
The protests, led by a loose left-wing collective called “Block Everything”, are a baptism of fire for Lecornu, 39, a close ally of Macron who has served the last three years as defence minister.
Demonstrators gathered across the country from the early hours, with 80,000 police deployed to keep the peace.
Groups of demonstrators, many masked, built barricades with dumpsters and pelted police with rubbish on the outskirts of Paris, according to AFP journalists.
In the southeastern city of Lyon, protesters blocked a highway running through the city and set bins on fire, while in the western city of Nantes police used teargas to disperse protesters.
