United States is considering expanding tariffs on countries that buy Russian oil, including India, but only if the European Union takes similar steps, a US official told news agency AFP on Tuesday. According to the report, dialling in to talks between US and EU officials, president Donald Trump suggested tariffs of between 50 and 100 per cent on buyers such as China and India.“The source of the money for the Russian war machine is oil purchases by China and India. If you do not get at the source of the money, there’s no way to stop the war machine,” the official said as quoted. Trump, the official added, is “ready to go” but wants the EU to act alongside the US.The discussions in Washington reportedly were led by EU sanctions envoy David O’Sullivan, with US treasury secretary Scott Bessent and officials from the state department and the US trade representative also taking part. Ukraine’s prime minister joined the session, while Trump made his intervention remotely, said the official.

On Friday, former White House press spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre is set to testify on Capitol Hill as the House Oversight Committee is in the “final stages” of its investigation into the mental decline of former President Joe Biden, which has called into question who was actually in charge in the Oval Office.

But if recent history is any guide, don’t expect Jean-Pierre’s appearance to garner much, if ANY broadcast network coverage.

MRC analysts looked at ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS evening, morning and Sunday roundtable news shows from June 18 (when the closed hearings began) to the morning of September 10 and found a total of 4 minutes, 2 seconds spent on the scandal.

NBC aired 3 minutes, 29 seconds on the hearings into Biden’s mental decline. PBS devoted just a scant 33 seconds to the hearings. ABC and CBS have yet to air a single second on them.

Jean-Pierre’s testimony comes on the heels of a September 6 blockbuster story by Axios reporting there were concerns even within the Biden administration about who was in charge of his autopen.

Trump Calls Slaying of Ukrainian Girl on Charlotte Subway a Sympton of Pro-Crime DNC-Run Cities

President Trump on Tuesday called for stricter law enforcement measures in the wake of a slew of horrific and senseless black on white murders.

The gut-wrenching murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte,  North Carolina, last month, in particular, has captured the attention of the president, who condemned the attack as a preventable tragedy resulting from weak Democrat criminal justice policies.

Zarutska, 23, was brutally stabbed on the neck by Decarlos Brown Jr., a homicidal maniac with an extensive criminal history, while riding on a Charlotte light rail train on August 22, 2025.

The president said it’s time “to stop this madness,” adding that he stands with victims and law-abiding citizens, while Democrats side with criminals, gang members, and thugs.

“For far too long, Americans have been forced to put up with Democrat-run cities that set loose savage, bloodthirsty criminals to prey on innocent people—really very, very innocent people,” Trump said in a White House video, Tuesday.  “In every place they control, radical left judges, politicians, and activists have adopted a policy of catch and release for thugs and killers,” Trump continued.

“In Charlotte North Carolina, we saw the results of these policies when a 23-year-old woman who came here from Ukraine met her bloody end on a public train,” Trump lamented. “She was slaughtered by a deranged monster who was roaming free after 14 prior arrests.”

Donald Trump inflicted plenty of damage on the United States over the course of his first four years in office, but the most enduring blow may have been his radicalization of the Supreme Court. He appointed not one, not two, but three conservative justices, all of whom were hand-selected by right-wing activists.

The remade court quickly paid dividends, issuing decisions overturning Roe v. Wade and granting Trump immunity from prosecution for acts committed while president. Now, it’s actively enabling the restored president’s fascist regime.

The conservative justices have already made it harder for judges to shut down Trump’s lawlessness and overtly unconstitutional orders — such as his effort to eliminate the constitutional guarantee to birthright citizenship — and keeps allowing him to fire ostensibly independent regulators and government workers en masse without any basis. Worse yet, the court has decided that Trump can arbitrarily deport immigrants to third-party countries to which they have no ties, even to exceedingly dangerous countries like South Sudan, with little opportunity to challenge the government’s decisions.

Trump fails in bid to fire Lisa Cook as Federal Reserve independence clings on– fortune.com

A federal court ruled Tuesday that embattled Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook can remain in her position while she fights President Donald Trump’s efforts to fire her.

The ruling, which will almost certainly be appealed, is a blow to the Trump administration’s efforts to assert more control over the traditionally independent Fed, which sets short-term interest rates to achieve its congressionally mandated goals of stable prices and maximum employment. Congress has also sought to insulate the Fed from day-to-day politics.

Trump said he was firing Cook on Aug. 25 over allegations raised by one of his appointees that she committed mortgage fraud related to two properties she purchased in 2021, before she joined the Fed. Cook is accused of saying two properties were “primary residences,” which could have resulted in lower down payments and mortgage rates than if either was designated a second home or investment property.

Cook’s lawyers argued that firing her was unlawful because presidents can only fire Fed governors “for cause,” which has typically meant inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance while in office. They also said she was entitled to a hearing and a chance to respond to the charges before being fired, but was not provided either. Her lawsuit denied the charges but did not provide more details.

After President Donald Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem complained on X that several minutes of her Aug. 31 “Face the Nation” interview had been “shamefully edited … to whitewash the truth,” CBS News announced that its flagship Sunday morning program will no longer edit its interviews, except for “legal or national security” reasons.

According to the Associated Press, CBS said it had edited the interview, which ran 16 minutes and 40 seconds in its original form, for length, and posted the full interview on its website and YouTube. As the AP correctly noted, Noem “made a series of unproven accusations about Ábrego García” in the portion of the interview that was cut. This is a pattern of behavior by the administration with respect to Kilmar Ábrego García, a Salvadoran refugee who had been illegally deported to the CECOT concentration camp in his country of origin.

In the context of the recent capitulations by CBS News and its parent company Paramount in the face of Trump administration demands, the announcement is noteworthy — and dangerous.

“Until our elected leaders take crime serious, we will keep burying our citizens at an alarming rate.”

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) issued a blistering rebuke of city leadership this week, accusing elected officials of ignoring warnings about repeat offenders following the brutal murder of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte light rail train.

The statement starts with the FOP quoting Mayor Vi Lyles, who said, “We need a bipartisan solution to address repeat offenders who do not face consequences for their actions.” The FOP fired back, posting, “What a concept [eyes rolling emoji]. Maybe if the mayor followed our Facebook page for maybe the past 5 years or so, she’d see we’ve been complaining about this and calling for action. It’s been met with [crickets emoji].”

Zohran Mamdani hadn’t been Regina Weiss’ first choice for mayor of New York City. She’d ranked city comptroller Brad Lander number-one on her primary ballot in June, and told me she wished that the 33-year-old Democratic Socialist state assemblymember brought a bit more experience to the job. But Weiss, who volunteers with Indivisible, was happily supporting the Democratic nominee now, and expected to begin canvassing for him soon. What she couldn’t understand, she told me, as she waited for the candidate to take the stage with Sen. Bernie Sanders at the “Fighting Oligarchy” town hall in Brooklyn on Saturday, was why some of the biggest names in her party weren’t doing the same.

“I’ve never seen this before—I’ve never seen the Democratic leadership not endorse the Democratic candidate,” she said. “It’s so ugly, it’s so cowardly, it’s so stupid. The Democrats are basically in the crapper when it comes to enthusiasm. You’ve got this guy—the Democratic candidate for the biggest city in the country—and they’re not endorsing him.”

On Friday, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a radical Biden judge and said President Trump could not unilaterally cut billions in foreign aid.

Last Wednesday, US District Judge Amir Ali, a Biden appointee, blocked President Trump from cutting billions of dollars in USAID and foreign aid that Congress authorized.

Trump immediately appealed Judge Ali’s ruling.

“President Trump has the executive authority to ensure that all foreign aid is accountable to taxpayers and aligns with the America First priorities people voted for,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a statement to Reuters.

On Friday, a three-judge panel ruled 2-1 against President Trump.

The three-judge panel included: Majority: Pillard (Obama), Pan (Biden), and Dissent: Walker (Trump).

The US president was greeted with a mix of cheers and boos from early arriving spectators when he waved from a suite at the Arthur Ashe Stadium about 45 minutes before the match began.

August Jobs Report Takes Blow to Trump Agenda

What Next for the Global Economy? - NIESR

The Fed ought to patch the wound left by August’s jobs report– www.cnbc.com

At this moment in the U.S. economy — when interest rates are higher than usual and inflation still above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target — the jobs report is rather like an injury. You want it bad enough, like a gash, to elicit sympathy from others, but not so serious that it rends flesh and exposes bone.

The August jobs report was more like the latter. New payrolls came in more than one-third below expectations. On the bright side, even though the unemployment rate rose to 4.3% from 4.2% the month prior, it was largely because of a 436,000 increase in the size of the labor force — meaning it’s not so much layoffs but more job seekers that caused the increase in unemployment.

That said, the wound to the U.S. economy was severe enough that traders expect the Federal Reserve to administer some tender loving care soon. According to the CME FedWatch tool, the futures market, as of Sunday night stateside, has priced in an 8% chance of a supersized 50 basis points rate cut at the Federal Reserve’s September meeting. The probability was 0% a month ago. And a 25 basis points reduction is all but certain.

The prospect of such soothing by the central bank helped investors bear the pain of the jobs report stoically. Major U.S. indexes fell Friday, but only moderately. The Nasdaq Composite closed around the flatline, supported by strong bones in the tech sector.

If the Fed cuts rates later this month — a move it’ll almost certainly make — it’ll be a stitch, just in time, to save investors more than a dime.

For almost 40 years, people who suspect they’ve been harmed by a vaccine have been able to turn to a little-known system called the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program — often simply called the vaccine court.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long been a critic of the vaccine court, calling it “biased” against compensating people, slow and unfair. He has said that he wants to “revolutionize” or “fix” this system.
