FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that the investigation into the assassination of conservative speaker Charlie Kirk has expanded, with the bureau looking at numerous individuals who may have communicated with the suspect in online chats.

Speaking at a Senate hearing Tuesday, Patel said some of those under scrutiny are linked to an online chatroom where the suspect, Tyler Robinson, allegedly shared his plans.

Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., directly pressed Patel on whether Kirk’s suspected killer acted alone.

“So others could have been involved?” Kennedy asked.

National traumas can reveal our best instincts—and our worst. The assassination of Charlie Kirk, who was gunned down while engaging in political debate on a college campus, has done both. Many responded with compassion for his family and calls for greater civility. Others, disturbingly, cheered his murder.

As Matthew Continetti of the American Enterprise Institute observed, the shooting “struck at the ties that hold a free society together,” for it was an assault not just on a man but on the practice of open and civil discourse. The Free Press put it bluntly: “The principles we once took for granted in this country…feel endangered in a way they didn’t a decade ago.”

Via Associated Press.

What explains the acceptance and celebration of political violence? It would be easy to blame overheated political rhetoric. But something deeper is at work. Surveys show that one in three college students today expresses some support for the use of violence to silence a campus speaker—a 50 percent increase from just a decade ago. This shift reflects more than partisan anger: It signals a corrosive set of ideas, nurtured in classrooms and amplified in public forums, that reject the foundations of Western civilization.

These corrosive doctrines—rooted in postmodernism and critical theory—deny any source of morality outside the self, dismiss the intrinsic worth of every human, and reduce politics and law to raw quests for power. In such a worldview, silencing an opponent—even through violence—can seem not only permissible, but virtuous.

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s gruesome killing last week was both a striking visual of our nation’s intensifying polarization and, by some counts, a catalyst for it to intensify more. Even before a suspect had been identified, there was a knee-jerk reaction among some Republicans to blame the Democratic Party for his death. Some even called for retribution.

Importantly, we do not yet—and may never—know the motive, or constellation of motivations, that drove Kirk’s alleged shooter, who has been identified as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. But we do know that targets of political violence exist across the political spectrum.

Consider some of the recent events of political violence:

  • Just three months ago, Democratic Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were assassinated in their home. Another member of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party and his wife were also repeatedly shot and wounded; the suspect apprehended for these crimes had a list of dozens of potential targets, including other Democrats and abortion rights advocates.
  • In August, a law enforcement officer died amid a shooting that was directed at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the shooter had blamed his depression on the Covid vaccine.
  • In May, two staffers of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC, were fatally shot; the suspect in that case previously expressed strong opposition to Israel’s aggression in Palestine.
  • In April, the residence of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was set on fire in what prosecutors are calling an attempted murder. The fire took place a few hours after Shapiro, a Jewish Democrat, celebrated Passover.

The FBI arrested two men over the weekend after they allegedly placed an incendiary device under a local FOX affiliate’s vehicle in Utah.

The device was discovered beneath a FOX 13 Salt Lake City news vehicle in the suburb of Magna on Friday, and investigators determined that it failed to detonate after being lit. The suspects are Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31. The men were booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Sunday and are being held without bail.

They were charged with threat of terrorism, possessing weapons of mass destruction, aggravated arson, and possessing explosive devices. Adeeb Nasir was born in Pakistan and is an American citizen, according to his booking information. The name “Eddie Nash” is listed as an alias.

“Due to the nature of the device and its placement, this incident constituted a significant threat to public safety,” Unified Fire Authority Investigations officer Jeffrey David Nelson said in an affidavit, according to CBS News.

House Speaker Mike Johnson won’t commit to taking any disciplinary action against Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar for her comments blaming Charlie Kirk for his own assassination, despite his power to strip her of committee assignments or put forward a resolution calling for her expulsion from Congress.

In a Sunday appearance on Face the Nation, Johnson decried the danger of name-calling. “I mean calling people Nazis and fascists is not helpful,” Johnson said. “Look, there are some deranged people in society, and when they see leaders using that kind of language so often now, increasingly, it spurs them onto action. We have to recognize that reality and address it appropriately.”

But Johnson didn’t offer details Sunday about what an appropriate response looks like, even though he has a responsibility to respond to the ugly statements Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., made during an interview on the Mehdi Hasan podcast while discussing the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

“There are a lot of people who are out there talking about [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar said.

“It’s bullsh-t! A complete rewriting of history,” Hasan interjected.

It’s back-to-school season, and some teachers have promised that the racist ideas from diversity, equity, and inclusion would not be in their classrooms this year. That’s the good news. The bad news is that many of these teachers and administrators are clearly telling whoppers.

In fact, K-12 schools and colleges around the country are disguising their DEI offices and their racial preferences.

Take Maryland, across the border from the nation’s capital and where many federal bureaucrats sleep and send their children to school.

State education officials said schools would comply with President Donald Trump’s executive orders calling on schools to reject DEI, citing the ways in which DEI programs violate civil rights laws.

Yet schools in Montgomery County, precisely where the swamp lives, still have resources on their website dedicated to DEI and critical race theory.

This wealthy school district, which receives $51.5 million in federal taxpayer spending for children in its lower-income areas, offers online classes for teachers on “How to be an anti-racist and anti-racist educator.” These sessions argue that everything around us is racist because not everyone receives the same rewards in life.

So it does not matter how hard you work in life—everyone should have the same amount. That is “equity,” the course materials say. The way equity’s champions rationalize this to themselves is to say that success is the result of “whiteness,” or systemic racism or some such, not the result of effort.

A month before Charlie Kirk’s killing, billionaire pro-Israel moneyman Bill Ackman arranged an intervention in the Hamptons during which sources say he and others “hammered” Kirk for the conservative leader’s growing criticism of Israeli influence in Washington. Kirk came away fretting about Israeli “blackmail,” sources say, as he contemplated a Catholic conversion.

On September 11, one day after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, billionaire pro-Israel moneyman Bill Ackman took to Twitter/X to trumpet his relationship with the late conservative operative. “I feel incredibly privileged to have spent a day and shared a meal with @charliekirk11 this summer. He was a giant of a man.”

The Grayzone has spoken to five people with intimate knowledge of Kirk’s meeting with Ackman, which was held in early August. According to one source, Kirk was left upset after the gathering turned into an “intervention” where he was “hammered” for his increasingly skeptical views on the US special relationship with Israel, and for platforming prominent conservative critics of Israel at his TPUSA events.

To close out as guest host of Charlie Kirk’s podcast, JD Vance went hard against what he called the far left and an increased tolerance for violence on it, saying the administration would be working to dismantle those who celebrate Kirk’s death and political violence against their opponents.

Vance said that after he left Kirk’s family in Arizona, he read a story in the Nation, a leftwing publication, where the author detailed Kirk’s views and, he said, took a quote about a supreme court justice out of context to imply it applied to all Black women.

The magazine was not a “fringe blog” but a “well-funded, well-respected magazine whose publishing history goes back to the American civil war. George Soros’s Open Society Foundation funds this magazine, as does the Ford Foundation and many other wealthy titans of the American progressive movement,” Vance said, hinting at the organizations the administration might target in the aftermath of Kirk’s murder. Vance later mentioned that the foundations that helped fund the magazine are tax-exempt, a sign that the government could go after that status.

“Charlie was gunned down in broad daylight, and well-funded institutions of the left lied about what he said so as to justify his murder,” Vance claimed. “This is soulless and evil, but I was struck not just by the dishonesty of the smear, but by the glee over a young husband’s and young father’s death.”

Vance said Erica Kirk asked his wife, Usha, for advice on how to tell her children that their father had been murdered on the vice-president’s visit to escort Kirk’s remains back to Arizona. As she was asking for that advice, Vance said, “there were people dancing on that father’s grave”.

Booker was arrested and charged with one count of assault, classified as a Class C misdemeanor in Texas — the lowest level of criminal offense, a spokesperson for the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital on Monday.

“The Texas Tech Police Department arrested a student for simple assault, which occurred on the west side of the Student Union Building (free speech area),” The Texas Tech Police Department said in a statement. “The student was transported to the Lubbock County Jail.”

History:

On September 15, 1963, a bomb explodes during Sunday morning services in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, killing four young girls: Addie Mae Collins (14), Cynthia Wesley (14), Carole Robertson (14) and Carol Denise McNair (11).

With its large African American congregation, the 16th Street Baptist Church served as a meeting place for civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., who once called Birmingham a “symbol of hardcore resistance to integration.” Alabama’s governor, George Wallace, made preserving racial segregation one of the central goals of his administration, and Birmingham had one of the most violent and lawless chapters of the Ku Klux Klan.

The church bombing was the third in Birmingham in 11 days after a federal order came down to integrate Alabama’s school system.

GOP responds to Charlie Kirk’s death with anything but gun control– www.dailykos.com

Conservatives have come up with a host of measures they want taken to avenge right-wing activist Charlie Kirk’s murder—none of which include gun reforms.

Most of the proposals are retributive, with Republicans blaming the nebulous “left” for Kirk’s death and demanding that the “left” face punishment for it.

President Donald Trump—who was so distraught by Kirk’s death that he was seen happily dancing the next day at a Yankees game—said he wants to target progressive groups, claiming without evidence that they “contributed to this atrocity.”

Congressional Republicans seemed happy to help Trump in that endeavor, with Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas and nearly two dozen other House Republicans demanding that GOP Speaker Mike Johnson create a new committee to investigate progressive groups that they baselessly accused of being responsible for Kirk’s death.

“In the wake of numerous attacks on our way of life, the destruction of the rule of law, and the murder of innocent Americans, prominent and unknown alike, we must take every step to follow the money and uncover the force behind the NGOs, donors, media, public officials, and all entities driving this coordinated attack,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Johnson, specifically referencing right-wing boogeyman George Soros and the Southern Poverty Law Center as groups they want to see investigated.

Monday on CNN’s “OutFront,” chronic Trump critic Adam Kinzinger claimed “people like” Vice President JD Vance were trying to make the assassination of Charlie Kirk a “divisive thing.”

Host Erin Burnett said, “As you are both aware, a bunch of people have been fired for saying things after the Charlie Kirk murder. Congressman, so when you hear JD Vance hosting that podcast, the sitting Vice President of the United States hosting the Kirk podcast today, I know you had a chance to listen to much of it. You know, what did you think?”

Kinzinger said, “I mean, look, this is the weirdest time. It’s you know, there’s only as I see it, only one kind of group of people trying to make this a very divisive thing and that is people like JD Vance. I mean I’ve only seen, like, we can all go on Twitter and see people that celebrate it. They’re usually faceless, nameless people and it’s disgusting. But every Democratic leader I’ve seen has expressed remorse for what happened, has expressed concern, has expressed compassion for the family. It’s like they’re trying to stir this thing up and it’s this is so dangerous. That’s the thing is, this is such a dangerous moment because a cycle of violence is what I fear, and a cycle of violence doesn’t end well for anybody. Nobody wanted this to happen to Charlie Kirk. this is awful. and for the vice president to say he knows who did it and the motivation. I don’t even think law enforcement has said that there was a specific motivation behind it. So this is really dangerous.”

The Trump administration has drafted a plan to activate 1,000 National Guard troops in Louisiana, reports claim.

The troops would reportedly be sent to Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

According to reports, National Guard troops would support law enforcement operations in the state’s urban centers.

WBRZ explained:

The plan, confirmed by the Pentagon, would have National Guard troops support law enforcement in Louisiana’s “urban centers,” but hinges on a formal request from Gov. Jeff Landry, according to the report. Landry has shown support for troop deployment in Louisiana in the past, but he has not yet made an official request.

According to The Washington Post, troops would help with drug enforcement and communication support in the current plan.

The report comes after Trump has made more than one mention of sending troops to New Orleans in the last several days.
