Just two days after reaching a tentative deal, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) have rejected Boeing Defense’s latest contract offer, according to a report from Reuters issued late Friday afternoon, Sept. 12.

Reuters had previously reported on Wednesday, Sept. 10, that a tentative deal had been negotiated between the company and union officials.

The contract rejection means that the workers’ strike now goes into its seventh week in the St. Louis region, which includes workers from the Metro East and Boeing’s Mascoutah facilities.

“Our members in St. Louis have once again shown that they will not settle for Boeing’s half-measures,” IAM International President Brian Bryant said in a statement. “Boeing must start listening to its employees and come back to the table with a meaningful offer that respects the sacrifices and skill of these workers.”

Planned Parenthood is Teaching Teens How to Secretly Get Trans Hormones– www.lifenews.com

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion company, is expanding its reach into selling trans hormones by instructing teenagers on evading parental consent and medical safeguards.

That’s according to a recent workshop exposed by critics who warn it endangers vulnerable youth. The abortion organization, which operates nearly 600 centers nationwide, has positioned itself as the leading seller of cross-sex hormones for so-called gender transitions, treating 40,000 patients last year alone, with 40% aged 18 to 22.

In a move critics decry as prioritizing ideology over safety, Planned Parenthood affiliates have begun offering explicit guidance to minors on obtaining hormones without parental knowledge, fueling concerns that the group is exploiting confused teens for profit.

A National Review investigation revealed that Planned Parenthood hosted a workshop titled “Queer 101: Introduction to Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation” at its clinic in Kalamazoo, Michigan, earlier this year. The session, aimed at teens as young as 13, included detailed instructions on “how to get around parental permission requirements” for hormone therapy and accessing gender-affirming care discreetly.

Maddow Claims Trump Wants To Use Kirk Murder To ‘Stay in Power Indefinitely’– www.newsbusters.org

The calls to turn down the political rhetoric were nice while they lasted. On Monday’s The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, the eponymous host warned that President Trump and the administration writ large intend to use the assassination of Charlie Kirk to, among other things, “stay in power indefinitely.”

Referencing a New York Times article, Maddow lamented, “Another headline today, quote, ‘White House plans broad crackdown on liberal groups.’ They’re saying now they will use the horrific murder of pro-Trump activist Charlie Kirk last week as a justification for some undefined whole-of-government attack on what they always describe very vaguely as ‘the left,’ in this country.”

In that article, buried all the way down in paragraphs 18 and 19, was this nugget from Vice President JD Vance as he guest-hosted The Charlie Kirk Show:

‘We can thank God that most Democrats don’t share these attitudes, and I do, while acknowledging that something has gone very wrong with a lunatic fringe, a minority, but a growing and powerful minority on the far left,’ he said.

Mr. Vance said the administration would not go after ‘constitutionally protected speech’ but rather what he described as a network of nonprofit nongovernmental organizations that ‘foments, facilitates and engages in violence.’

An ABC reporter who was in attendance at a press briefing in Utah where charges against the suspect in Charlie Kirk’s assassination were detailed claimed that the text messages between the alleged killer and his transgender romantic partner were “very touching.” In those messages, Tyler Robinson urged his lover Lance Twiggs to destroy evidence to help cover up his connection to the killing.

Matt Gutman told viewers “we have seen an alleged murderer with such specific text messages about the alleged murder weapon, where it was hidden, how it was placed, what was on it.

“But also it was very touching, in a way that I think many of us didn’t expect, a very intimate portrait into this relationship between the suspect’s roommate and the suspect himself, with him repeatedly calling his roommate, who was transitioning, calling him ‘my love’, and ‘I want to protect you my love.’

“So it was this duality of someone who, the attorney said, not only jeopardized the life of Charlie Kirk and the crowd, but was doing it in front of children, which is one of the aggravating circumstances of this case. And on the other hand, he was, you know, speaking so lovingly about his partner. So a very interesting… riveting press conference.”

Russia and Belarus staged a simulated nuclear strike during their joint Zapad-2025 military exercises, which are being observed this year by delegations from several NATO countries, including the United States.

The drills, which began Friday and end Tuesday, are aimed at testing Belarus and Russia’s ability to repel an enemy attack and retake lost territory, according to the Belarusian Defense Ministry. Zapad-2025 has put NATO countries on alert, particularly in Eastern Europe, where Poland and neighboring countries carried out their own exercises earlier this summer.

Top Belarusian general Pavel Muraveiko said the maneuvers included “planning and examining the potential use of non-strategic nuclear weapons and the evaluation and deployment of the Oreshnik mobile missile system.”

Russia first unveiled the Oreshnik, a hypersonic ballistic missile, during a strike on Ukraine last November in what many analysts described as political theater rather than a demonstration of a new superweapon. Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko latewr asked Moscow to station the missile system in his country, citing threats from NATO members Poland, Lithuania and Germany.

Public Opinion Surveys Show Recent Gains for China’s Soft Power– chinadigitaltimes.net

Several public opinion surveys published over the last few months paint a picture of China’s role in the world from the perspective of both Chinese and international respondents. These build on previous surveys from the past year that show how despite polarized views, global attitudes towards China have improved at the expense of the U.S., especially in the Global South. (Meanwhile, polls showing dissatisfaction within China have been censored online.)

One notable survey published this month by Dina Smeltz, Craig Kafura, Yawei Liu, Nick Zeller, and Sam Dong at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs tracked Chinese people’s confidence in China and their desire for their country to play a global leadership role. Conducted between April 25 and June 16, the survey found that a “key difference between Chinese views of Beijing’s role in the world compared to American views of Washington’s role is that China’s public support is widespread across all demographic groups, while the public in the United States is much more fragmented, especially by partisan affiliation.” Here is a summary of the main findings:

Nine in 10 Chinese support their country’s active participation in world affairs (90%).

Part of this enthusiasm stems from a sense that China is a leading power in the world: Large majorities say their country is in at least a somewhat strong position in the world (97%) and expect it to get at least somewhat stronger in the next five years (95%).

Seven in 10 Chinese respondents say China has a unique character that makes it the greatest country in the world (69%) versus three in 10 who say China is no greater than any other country (30%).

While a plurality prefer China play a shared leadership role in the world (48%), four in 10 say it should take a dominant one (41%). One in 10 feel China should play no leadership role (11%). [Source]

Eye Drops May One Day Replace Reading Glasses, and Could Help Our Vision as we Age– www.discovermagazine.com

As we age, we’ll all experience a decline in our vision and will likely need reading glasses. Instead of reaching for those glasses though, imagine taking 2 to 3 eyedrops a day to see something up close.

New research that experts will present at the 43rd Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) explores presbyopia, the condition that makes it hard for the eye to focus on close objects and text, and how eye drops could one day replace eyeglasses.

For this study, lead researcher Giovanna Benozzi, who is also the director of the Center for Advanced Research for Presbyopia in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and her team followed a group of 766 presbyopia patients with an average age of 55 years. The team’s hope was to help find an alternative solution to glasses and eye surgery.

“We conducted this research due to the significant unmet medical need in presbyopia management. Current solutions, such as reading glasses or surgical interventions, have limitations, including inconvenience, social discomfort, and potential risks or complications,” Benozzi said in a press release.

“There is a group of presbyopia patients who have limited options besides spectacles, and who are not candidates for surgery; these are our primary focus of interest,” Bennozi added in the press release.

The government of an EU country is threatening to impose a strict ban on the movement of sheep and goats as it battles a deadly virus. Greece has seen an outbreak of smallpox in its herds of goats and sheep, which has led to tens of thousands of animals being slaughtered.

Data from Greece’s Ministry of Agriculture shows that over 260,000 sheep and goats have been culled in the twelve months to August. Some 1,100 farms have been forced to shut after reporting cases of the highly contagious disease. Although the virus cannot spread to humans, the health crisis could see prices for mutton and goat’s meat steeply rise.

The outbreak also threatens to deal a huge blow to the export of feta – Greece’s trademark salty cheese made from goat and sheep’s milk.

In an attempt to bring the outbreak under control, the government announced on Monday a 10-day plan.

Officials have called on stockbreeders to tighten biosecurity measures for their flocks, as well as ordering vets to step-up on site inspections at farms.

Additionally the government has urged local officials to establish disinfection points to control the movement of flocks across the country.

Australian researchers have identified “a new kind of carbon-based material” allowing supercapacitors to store as much energy as lead-acid batteries while also performing better than conventional batteries at delivering power quickly.

According to a statement from the university on Tuesday, the results are “a major leap forward” for fast, powerful energy storage devices, and are now being commercialised by Ionic Industries.

The new material is named as multiscale reduced graphene oxide (M-rGO) and was created from naturally-occurring graphite. It is described as being made using a “rapid thermal annealing process” and featuring a “highly curved graphene structure with precise pathways for ions to move quickly and efficiently”.

The promising new material is detailed in a new paper in Nature Communications.

Monash’s Professor Mainak Majumder, who was part of the research team and heads the ARC Research Hub for Advanced Manufacturing with 2D Materials (AM2D), said that M-rGO made much more surface area available for storing energy, and which was unlocked by the method of heat treatment.

This reality contradicts Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr.’s testimony in a Sept. 4 congressional hearing that everybody can get the vaccine. In May, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration placed restrictions on who is eligible for the COVID-19 shot. Previously, the Moderna and Pfizer formulations were available for anyone 6 months and older, with Novavax OK’d for those 12 and up. Now, the FDA has stated, those 6 months to 64 years old can receive the vaccine only if they have a medical condition that increases the risk of severe COVID-19 disease.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — European officials warned Iran on Wednesday it had yet to take the actions needed to stop the return of United Nations sanctions over its nuclear program.

The comments from the German Foreign Ministry and the European Union came after a call Iran had Wednesday with representatives of France, Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as the EU’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas.

“The window for finding a diplomatic solution on Iran’s nuclear issue is closing really fast,” Kallas warned in a statement. “Iran must show credible steps towards addressing the demands of France, (the) U.K. and Germany, and this means demonstrating full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and allowing inspections of all nuclear sites without delay.”

The German Foreign Ministry separately wrote on the social platform X that “Iran has yet to take the reasonable and precise actions necessary to” stop the reimposition of U.N. sanctions.

Iran had no immediate comment on the call, though it had acknowledged earlier that the call would take place. Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency earlier reached a deal mediated by Egypt to grant the U.N. watchdog access to all Iranian nuclear sites and for Tehran to report on the whereabouts of all its nuclear material. It remained unclear when Iran will make that report.

The House Oversight Committee released a transcript from its first closed-door interview with former Attorney General Bill Barr in which he acknowledged the mishandling of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s detainment and pointed to other possible files.

Barr, who twice served as attorney general and led the Justice Department during President Donald Trump’s first term, was subpoenaed by Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) last month. His appearance marked the first interview in a sweeping inquiry that also sought sitdowns with former President Bill Clinton, former Attorney General Eric Holder, and former FBI Director James Comey.

Barr was attorney general when Epstein was found dead in his prison cell in 2019, a death that was later deemed a suicide. Barr became directly involved in the aftermath, reviewing 11 hours of surveillance footage from Epstein’s cell block. He later concluded the video showed no evidence of foul play and backed the medical examiner’s finding of suicide.

Last week, the committee received a slew of documents from Epstein’s estate, including the 2003 “Birthday Book” that is alleged to have President Donald Trump’s signature in it.

Earlier this month, House Oversight released 33,000 pages of DOJ files on Epstein, just after Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), along with Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), introduced his discharge petition to try and force a vote for the full release of the Epstein files.

The House passed two bills on Tuesday to assert congressional control over the District of Columbia’s sentencing policies, the first portion of a slate of legislation coming to a vote this week aimed at overhauling Washington, D.C.’s criminal justice system.

The first bill is the D.C. Criminal Reforms to Immediately Make Everyone Safe Act, or DC CRIMES Act, which would prohibit the District’s local officials from changing sentencing laws and restrict the ability of local judges to be more lenient with younger criminals.

And the second bill, H.R. 5140, lowers the age for which youth offenders can be tried as an adult for certain criminal offenses, changing the threshold to 14 years of age.

The DC CRIMES Act passed 240-179, while H.R. 5140 passed 225-203.

Republicans are set to vote on several other bills relating to D.C. crime later this week as they carry on Trump’s crusade against crime in the nation’s capital after his 30-day takeover of the city’s police force expired.

The DC CRIMES Act amends the D.C. Home Rule Act to prohibit the council from enacting any changes to sentencing laws, as well as changing a provision that allows for lighter sentences for some convicts younger than 25 — lowering the threshold to 18.

Schumer and Jeffries said in a joint statement:

The House Republican-only spending bill fails to meet the needs of the American people and does nothing to stop the looming healthcare crisis. At a time when families are already being squeezed by higher costs, Republicans refuse to stop Americans from facing double-digit hikes in their health insurance premiums.

By refusing to work with Democrats, Republicans are steering our country straight toward a shutdown. President Trump called the play last week when he told Congressional Republicans to jam a partisan spending bill down the throats of the American people without Democratic support.

China’s coast guard accused a Philippine ship of deliberately ramming one of its vessels on Tuesday near the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea. The Philippines denied it, saying China’s forces used powerful water cannons that damaged its ship and injured a crew member.

A Chinese coast guard statement said more than 10 Philippine government ships coming from various directions entered the waters around the shoal, which is called Huangyan Island in Chinese. It said it deployed water cannons against the vessels.

The encounter came six days after China announced it was designating part of Scarborough Shoal as a national nature reserve. The Philippine government, which calls the shoal Bajo de Masinloc, filed a diplomatic protest.

China and the Philippines have clashed repeatedly around outcroppings in the South China Sea, which China claims almost in its entirety. The two countries are among several that have competing claims to territory in the waters, which are of strategic importance and home to valuable fishing grounds.

The Philippine coast guard said two Chinese coast guard ships hit a Filipino fisheries vessel, the BRP Datu Gumbay Piang, with powerful water cannons for nearly 30 minutes “resulting in significant damage,” including in the captain’s cabin and the bridge. A glass window was shattered and injured a personnel while the deluge of water caused a short circuit that affected electrical outlets and five outdoor air-conditioning units, it said.

According to Mr Gray, the note said: “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”

The prosecutor also shared text messages between the roommates, including one in which the defendant allegedly said he shot Kirk because he had “had enough of his hatred”.

The suspect is being held without bail in a special housing unit at the Utah County Jail. He made his first court appearance on Tuesday, appearing remotely as prosecutors read the seven charges against him.

The charges are aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of witness tampering, and committing a violent crime when children are present.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, dropped that bombshell Tuesday during a Senate Judiciary Committee regular hearing on the oversight of the FBI, along with a revolting new document.

“It’s well-understood that your predecessor left you an FBI infected with politics,” Grassley said in his opening statement, speaking to current FBI Director Kash Patel. As proof, Grassley shared recently released records listing 92 targets the FBI was investigating or intending to investigate in the large-scale, multi-year political weaponization operation named Arctic Frost, a joint investigation using resources from the FBI, Department of Justice, and Office of Inspector General. This bogus witch hunt involved more than 150 interviews, over 400 subpoenas (largely for bank records), hundreds of witnesses, and search warrants for cell phones of high level government officials, electronic devices, iCloud access, and email accounts.

“Arctic Frost was the FBI case opened and approved by anti-Trump FBI agent [Timothy] Thibault. Arctic Frost became Jack Smith’s elector case against Trump,” Grassley said. “These new records show that Arctic Frost was much broader than just an electoral matter. The case was expanded to Republican organizations. Some examples of the groups the Wray FBI sought to place under political investigation included the Republican National Committee, Republican Attorneys General Association and Trump political groups.”

BRET BAIER: Well tonight, in our Common Ground segment, a conversation on bringing the nation together, or trying to, to restore civility in politics. Joining me, Pennsylvania Senators Dave McCormick and John Fetterman. Pennsylvania, by the way, is one of only three states with a Democrat and Republican split in the U.S. Senate. Senators, thanks for being here. You all called me. Usually we reach out. You wanted to do this together. Why?

SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN (D-PA): Well, I mean, we thought it was just a great idea. I think it’s an important idea right now. I mean, the trauma after the Charlie Kirk assassination, and now, as things continue now, it’s like, I feel like it’s important that people can witness, you know, a Democrat and a Republican having a conversation after this. It’s absolutely horrific, and it’s entirely necessary to allow people to grieve for that. I mean, everyone’s seen the video.

SEN. DAVE MCCORMICK (R-PA): Yeah, it’s just the, the heartbreak, you feel for Charlie Kirk’s family, Eric and their children, and all the students across the country, the people across the country that were huge followers. And I think the Senator and I agreed that, and we, we do agree that there, there’s just no place in this country, for political violence. It, it’s absolutely something, it runs counter to the very idea of free, free speech and freedom, and that when you see, dangerous rhetoric, like fascist and Nazism and authoritarianism, that’s a, and, and the end of democracy, that’s a, that’s a permission. That takes us down a path where the inevitable next step is, is violence, and, and that’s what we see.

BRET BAIER: And Senator Fetterman, you’ve talked about that recently, calling somebody Hitler, calling somebody Nazis.

SEN. JOHN FETTERMAN (D-PA): Exactly, this idea, it’s like, do not ever, ever, ever compare anyone to Hitler. If not, go online and you can read up on exactly what he’s responsible for, you know, 75 to 80 million lives lost in World War II, and you don’t compare him to anyone. And if you do, then you will incite somebody to say, well, now I feel like I have to stop, to stop that and take them out.

Pope Leo XIV has told the new U.S. ambassador to the Vatican that he was praying for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist assassinated in Utah last week, as well as his wife and children

ROME — Pope Leo XIV told the new U.S. ambassador to the Holy See that he is praying for Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist assassinated in Utah last week, as well as his wife and children, the Vatican spokesman said Tuesday.

Leo also “expressed concern about political violence and spoke of the need to refrain from rhetoric and exploitation that lead to polarization rather than dialogue,” spokesman Matteo Bruni said in comments reported by Vatican News.

The pope made the comments on Saturday when he received Ambassador Brian Burch in an audience to receive his credentials. The protocol visit marked their first meeting.

“The pope confirmed that he is praying for Charlie Kirk,” Bruni said.
